I pulled this video off on a whim. I had just wrapped production for my fourth Harvest Vine video up in Madison Vally and I was having lunch with my old friend Brian Hildebrand on Capitol Hill. He had his guitar with him and suggested we go down to Pike Place Market so he can have a whirl at busking his rendition of the Super Mario Bros. Theme Song. Who was I to say no?
I hid my Zoom H4N in his guitar case and just let it record the entire set. I filmed everything on my Sony NEX-VG10 and just hoped for the best that it would sound good. You’ll notice there are quite a bit of clips in this video that don’t quite match the audio. Most noticeably when Brian is singing next to the campy Japanese tourist. Some people might think this is sloppy editing but I think its a compromise. I find its tricky to make a music video compelling enough to watch without these conventions so why would you make it even more difficult on yourself?
