The first thing you’ll notice about Rocky’s class is the personality of the students. The kids are so charming and funny. Then, as you patiently observe the classroom, you start to see Rocky’s insurmountable task of managing these personalities and adapting the lessons to fit the needs of the student.
On the day I spent with Rocky, she was having her students make perpetual calendars. She had the students make the calendars out of foam board and used tactile clay tiles to represent the months and days. Every piece was carefully painted and organized.
In the image below, one of her students is playing with paint. From what I observed, the kids really love to explore their environment with their hands. Which can be messy.
This is a personal project for me and I plan to develop it over the next couple months.
