I filmed this rap music video in downtown Oakland.
If I had it to do again, I’d focus more on close up shots of the guy’s faces. There is less expectation for continuity between close ups so it gives some freedom in the edit. When you have a wide angle and cut to a close up, you notice little differences in the character’s body movements. You almost wish you had two cameras because matching can be difficult depending on your talent’s ability to maintain constancy of motions between takes.
We used a small bluetooth speaker for the talent to sync performance to the song. It worked okay but a bigger louder speaker would have come in handy in providing a more comfortable environment for the talent to feel the song and perform comfortably. The process can be a bit awkward for those who aren’t familiar!
